Dominoes are extensively played across Cuba, in the streets, parks and homes. These men were playing nine spot dominoes at this house in Remedios, Villa Clara, January 2008. Even though I was taking photographs of these domino players nothing could distract them from their game. I particularly like the lighting, composition and the concentration of these men and the very basic surroundings. This picture formed part of the 2008 portfolio the

The rider of this Bici-Taxi (as they are called in Cuba) is having a bad day. I just happen to take a shot of him as I was about to cross the road in old Havana. Why he was driving along the road on two wheels instead of three, whilst covering his eyes we will never know. The vehicle to the right of him is a local bus (guaguas) capable of holding over two hundred people, very over crowded and uncomfortable. This picture formed part of the 2008 portfolio the
On The Brink
Some two million Cubans now live in the USA who send money, clothing and other goods back to their families in Cuba. This together with the increase in tourism is influencing day to day lives across the country especially in the cities. These guys would not look out of place in Miami with their tattoos, clothing and the rap music blaring out in the streets of Old Havana. This picture formed part of the 2008 portfolio the
Havana Rappers
Taken at a Boxing Academy in Havana in 2006. Youngsters attend the academy after school to train, spar and participate in fights against other academies. Cuba has many Olympic Champions and one of them that helps out at this outdoor facility is double Olympic champion. This picture for me captures the atmosphere of this rustic academy with it's strong composition and colours.
